Everyone has the ability to be a 6ft Artist. Few have the courage. It does not matter what your area of art is: dance, drama, video, writing, or music, you can be a 6ft Artist. A 6ft Artist creates by three basic tennants:
1. Dig Deep
2. Be Real
3. Live in Faith
Three easy caveats, but of course much harder to live out. Here is what they mean:
Dig Deep
A 6ft Artist will not be satisfied with scratching the surface. They will not stop with the first melodic idea that comes to mind, they will not succumb to reiterating overworn dance moves, they will dig deeper. They will mine their creativity until they come face-to-face with something that is uniquely theirs, something that transcends emulation and stands out from the crowd. They will put themselves in artistic situations where they may feel out of their element because they know that it will stretch them. They commit themselves unreservedly to becoming that rare artist that God has created them to be in spite of the pain of the journey, in spite of what others may say, and just when it seems that they are doomed to fail, they will succeed brilliantly.
Be Real
A 6ft Artist will be real about who they are - with themselves, with others, and with God. That is not to say that the artist will spill their emotions on everyone that is unfortunate enough to get too close, it means that with a 6ft Artist, what you see is what you get. A 6ft Artist will not try to appear more holy than they are, they will be real about their strengths and their failings. They have come to terms with themselves and through prayer and intense spiritual growth, they live in God's Grace. That ability to face the true person will shine out as authenticity in their dance, acting, writing, music or videos.
Live in Faith
A 6ft Artist will live in faith as one called by God to their specific purpose. They will not allow themselves to be swayed by the situations around them, but with singleness of mind will follow God's plan for their lives. The 6ft Artist has one question: "God, what do you want me to do?" And then they do that - no excuses, no turning back. The artist is not solitary and seeks the advice and council of trusted advisors, all the while taking the steps that God puts in front of them - acting in faith, not fear. The 6ft Artist will not allow themselves to be turned aside.
As you can see, being a 6ft Artist is not easy, but it is our belief that as we strive to emulate the grandeur of God in our artistic expression, it is more than worth it. Our hope is that one day, all Christian artists will live by these tennants and bring God glory in all they do.
